Official titles of the Federal Police
The official or official titles of the Federal Police - incorrectly known colloquially as ranks - are in Germany the civil service designations of positions held by a law enforcement officer. Officials on revocation in the preparatory service instead use a service title because they have not yet been assigned an office in the sense of status law.
In the uniformed service, the service and office designations are visible through shoulder flaps or slip-on loops made of fabric (but usually not with emergency suits). They usually show stars arranged one on top of the other, braids / stripes in the preparatory service or braids / stripes in the water police .
The background of the shoulder boards is blue. They are pointed towards the end. In the Federal Police Office - Office See, the underground is navy blue.
With the water police the badges are called stripes or braids . They are always gold in color. Wide strands / stripes are 12 mm (senior service), narrow strands / stripes are 8 mm wide (medium service), the strands / stripes on the shoulder board of the Chief Police Officer are usually 30 mm wide.
The German Federal Police has the following service and official titles for law enforcement officers.

Hints
- In the case of promotion officers, a silver braid is added to the badge at the beginning of promotion training from the middle to the higher service, and a gold braid from the higher to the higher service. In the case of the Federal Police Office-See, a shortened wide strand is generally added.
- The former "Border Police Support Force" (GUK) or the current "Federal Police Support Force" (BUK) does not belong to the civil service career of the middle service because it is not employed as a civil servant but as an employee. Insofar as they are assigned a corresponding salary group of the middle class according to their salary group (activity according to the job description). Can be equated with service, it should be allowed to be assigned to the middle service, especially if it also exercises sovereign functions.

Note on the official designations of staff master and senior staff master
When the career system was changed in 1976 at the Federal Border Guard , staff master and senior staff master continued to exist as permissible official titles. However, the office of staff master was no longer awarded, but already appointed staff master could be promoted to senior staff master. These offices belonged to the middle law enforcement service . Staff masters who took a promotion test for the senior police enforcement service were promoted directly to the police superintendent , all other active staff masters were promoted to senior staff officers or they were given posts in the senior police enforcement service. There have been no active staff masters since 2005.
