Witten is the seat of the Witten District Court , which is responsible for the city of Witten in the northern part of the Ennepe-Ruhr district . Around 100,000 people live in the 72 km² judicial district .

Superior courts

The regional court overriding the Witten District Court is the Bochum Regional Court , which in turn is subordinate to the Hamm Higher Regional Court .

The Witten District Court was founded in 1879.

The head of the local court in Witten is the local court director Barbara Monstadt. She replaced Bernd Grewer, who retired in autumn 2014 and was director of the local court for fifteen years.
