The Bochum district court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction .
Responsibilities and staff
The jurisdiction includes the district court districts of Bochum , Herne , Herne-Wanne , Recklinghausen and Witten . It employs 237 people, including 70 judges.
history
The Essen Regional Court was responsible for Bochum until 1892 . With the Prussian law of April 3, 1888 (Collection of Laws No. 51) it was determined that the Bochum Regional Court should be established. On the basis of the ordinance of May 8, 1892, the court then began its work on October 1, 1892.
The court was housed in the buildings on Westring until October 2017 and is now located in the Justice Center at Josef-Neuberger-Straße 1.

Hartwig Kemner, who replaced Volker Brüggemann, who retired in the same year, has been President of the Bochum Regional Court since January 2013. Kemner previously headed the Hagen Regional Court for seven years and was Vice President at the Bochum Regional Court from 2000 to 2006.
