The office building

The office building for the 13th and 14th district is an office building in the Vienna district of Hietzing . It is located at Hietzinger Kai 1–3, west of the Kennedy Bridge , between Hietzinger Kai and Eduard-Klein-Gasse. It is a little further away from the Kennedy Bridge through the Hans-Moser-Park .

history

The office building was built in 1912/13 by the Vienna city administration on the former site of the steam tramway depot and opened on January 12, 1914. At first it only served the 13th district, as parts of Vienna north of the Wien River were also part of the 13th district at that time. On October 15, 1938, the district boundaries were changed by the National Socialist dictatorship; Since then, the then newly configured 14th district, Penzing , has also been administered from here .

The Penzing district council, a local political body, was only moved to this district in 2016.

architecture

The striking late historical building is designed in neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance forms . The northeast corner is dominated by a mighty corner tower with an Échauguette turret. The main front (Am Hans-Moser-Park) is asymmetrical; In the right part, a flight of stairs leads to a vestibule, which is designed in the form of arcades. The adjoining vestibule has a groin vault supported by bulging columns.

In the middle transverse wing (2nd staircase), the original furnishings with ceramic wall cladding of the entrance areas, stone paving floors and coffered wood paneling have been preserved.

The elongated inner courtyard is also largely in its original state; on the eastern narrow side there are double arcades, on the western a polygonal porch.

In February 1945 there was heavy bomb damage; according to Felix Czeike, they were corrected from 1949 to 1951. Components erected in the west in the 1970s extend to Dommayergasse. This is where the entrance to the Hietzing District Court, which has moved here, has also been located since 1978 .
