Amy Roberts

Amy Roberts (* 1988 in Penzance ) is a British jazz musician ( alto , tenor and C melody saxophone , clarinet , flute ).

Live and act

Roberts, who grew up in Penzance, first learned to flute. Her skills were recognized during a summer school; without having had any formal training on the saxophone, she studied classical saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester between 2007 and 2011 . From 2011 on she was a member of the Big Chris Barber Band for four years (and was their first female member ever), with whom she played in numerous European countries. She belongs to the Magnificent 7 Jazz Band , with whom she released two albums, and leads her own quintet together with Richard Exall.

She has also performed with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra , The London Swing Orchestra , Pete Long's Echos of Ellington , Keith Nichols Blue Devils Orchestra and Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra . She also toured the UK with Alex Vargas and performed with The Committed . Tom Lord : According to her, she was involved in 8 recordings between 2011 and 2013.

Prizes and awards

In 2010 she received the Martyn Edwards Bursary for extraordinary jazz performances in college. In both 2009 and 2011 she won the Rising Star category at the British Jazz Awards . In 2015 she received this award in the “Mixed Instruments” category.
