Ana Maria Guerra Martins

Ana Maria Guerra Martins (born July 22, 1963 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Guerra Martins studied law at the University of Lisbon , where she graduated in 1986. From 1989 she worked as a university assistant in Lisbon. In 1993 she obtained a master's degree in European Community Law. From 1997 to 1999 she worked as part of a research stay at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg . After her return to Portugal she became Guerra Martins in 2000 from the University of Lisbon to a Dr. iur. PhD. She then worked as a junior professor in Lisbon. From 2004 to 2005 she was visiting professor at the Universities of Paris XI and Maputo . In 2006 she returned to the University of Lisbon as a lecturer and from 2007 she also acted as a judge at the Portuguese Constitutional Court . In 2011 Guerra Martins became a full professor at the University of Lisbon.

In October 2019, Guerra Martins was elected as the successor to Paulo Pinto de Albuquerque as the representative of Portugal as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights . She began her term of office, which is expected to last until 2029, on April 1, 2020.
