Ana Mercedes Hoyos Mejía (born September 29, 1942 in Bogotá , Colombia ; † September 5, 2014 there ) was a Colombian painter and sculptress .

life and work

Hoyos received private lessons in painting from Luciano Jaramillo (1938-1984) during her school days at Colegio Marymount in Bogotá. To get to know art in other cultures, she traveled to Europe, Mexico and the USA. At the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) she studied art with Jaramillo as well as with Juan Antonio Roda , Marta Traba and Armando Villegas . In 1967 she married the architect Jacques Mosseri Hané, with whom she spent a month in New York City exploring pop art exhibitions before returning to Bogatá. In 1992 she was invited by the Japan Foundation to take part in a cultural exchange program for artists. President Bill Clinton invited her to attend the "Culture and Diplomacy" conference held in 2000 at the White House. In the same year, she received a Masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of Antioquia in Medellín . Hoyos has received more than 17 national and international awards for her work. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Fuji Art Museum in Tokyo , the Ibercaja Collection in Zaragoza , Spain, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, the Nassau County Art Museum in Roslyn Harbor, New York, and the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá and other Latin American cities.
