Anacampsis timidella is a butterfly from the family of gelechiidae (Gelechiidae).
features
The butterflies have a wingspan of 15-17 mm. The beige forewings with purple speckles have a characteristic light spot on about three quarters of the length on the front edge. At rest you can see an indistinct light transverse band that runs from the spot to the rear edge of the wing. The forewings show a pattern of loose, dark, small spots. There are also a number of dark spots along the outer edge of the wing. The hind wings are also colored beige without any particular pattern. The moths have the palps typical of the butterfly family on the front of the head . The eyes are reddish in color. The purple colored caterpillars have a dark brown head and neck shield. The abdomen end of the caterpillars is also dark brown in color. The caterpillars have light hairs on the head and on the stigmata . The caterpillars reach a length of about 12 mm. The orange-colored doll is 8 mm long.
distribution
Anacampsis timidella is native to the western Palearctic . The species is widespread in southern and central Europe. It is absent in the British Isles , Denmark, Scandinavia and the Baltic States .
Way of life
The monophageous butterfly species uses oaks ( Quercus ) as host plants , especially the downy oak ( Q. pubescens ), but also the turkey ( Q. cerris ), the Pyrenees oak ( Q. pyrenaica ) and the English oak ( Q. robur ). The caterpillars develop in spring in a sheet of their host plants that is rolled up crosswise. Pupation usually takes place in the middle of May in the leaf wrap. The moths hatch after just under three weeks. This is mainly observed in June.
