Josef Christa

Josef Christa (born July 20, 1877 in Binswangen ; † June 15, 1951 ibid) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , local researcher and art historian in the Oberschwaben , Allgäu , Bavarian Swabia area .

Life

After years of high school and university studies in Dillingen an der Donau , he was ordained a priest on July 25, 1901. He held pastoral positions in Immenstadt (as city chaplain 1901 to 1902), Neuburg an der Donau (as city chaplain 1902 to 1905), Illertissen ( vicar 1905 to 1908) and Untereichen ( pastor 1908 to 1938). In 1938 he took early retirement due to illness and devoted himself to research on art and local history until his death.

Christa's art history publications deal with the sculptors Christoph Rodt and Hans Schaller or the Ulm sculptor Hans Multscher . He provided descriptions of places and partial studies for Altenstadt (Iller) , Illereichen , Illertissen, Oberroth , Ursberg , Roggenburg (Bavaria) , Kellmünz , Ottobeuren , Witzighausen and other places and individual farms. Johann Fackler compiled a list of publications in 1962.

His work was honored in Illertissen and Altenstadt (Iller) with a Josef-Christa-Straße each.
