history

Witzighausen was first mentioned in history in 1336, when goods in Wiczishausen were given to the parish church of Ulm. The place belonged to the county of Kirchberg-Wullenstetten.

In 1481, the Kirchbergers founded a chaplain at the Witzighausen chapel. Construction of the pilgrimage church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary began in 1733 and was completed in 1860 with the elevation of the steeple. The adjacent rectory was completed in 1794. Witzighausen was part of the Aufheim parish until 1865, after which it became its own parish. Today Witzighausen is part of the parish community of Wullenstetten.

From 1878 to 1966 Witzighausen had a train station on the Senden-Weißenhorn railway line . Passenger traffic between Ulm and Weißenhorn has been back on the route since 2013. As part of the modernization of the line, a new train stop was built in Witzighausen. The listed original station building now houses the Witzighausen volunteer fire brigade and private apartments.

The most important branch of industry in Witzighausen was the brickworks founded in the 19th century.
