Anastassi Bratanowski
Anastassi Bratanowski ( Russian Анастасий Братановский ; bourgeois Andrei Semyonovich Bratanowski-Romanenko , Russian Андрей Семёнович Братановский-Романенко * 1761 in a village in Poltava Governorate , † 1816 in Astrakhan ) was a Russian preacher and Archbishop of Astrakhan and Caucasus.
Bratanowski studied at the theological college in Perejaslav (near Kiev ). At the age of 29, Bratanowski became a monk in 1790. After a short time he was appointed archimandrite in several monasteries; including in 1796 the Nomospasker monastery in Moscow .
Over time, the brilliant style and lively delivery of his sermons and secular speeches made Bratanowski known throughout the country as a distinguished speaker . His sermons were popular long after his death.
His ecclesiastical career led Bratanowski from the bishop in Belarus (1797) to the office of archbishop (1801) to an assessor in the Holy Synod (1805).
Archbishop Anastassi Bratanowski died in Astrakhan in 1816 at the age of about 55.
