Kuznetsov has published more than 250 compositions since 1948, mainly studies, but also retro-analytical tasks. At the beginning of his career he often composed with Boris Sakharov. He took Nikolai Kralin and Karen Sumbatjan under his wing.

In the study tournament of the Soviet Union against the rest of the world in 1989 he was team leader of the Soviet team. At the end of his life, he worked with Sumbatjan on a study for over five years. Harold van der Heijden's database contains almost 150 of his studies.
