Eduard Lucerna
Eduard Lucerna (born November 11, 1869 in Klagenfurt , † November 26, 1944 in Gries near Bozen ) was an Austrian composer .
Life
The son of a military officer studied pharmacy in Graz and then worked as a pharmacist in Villach , Spittal an der Drau and Bludenz . In 1900 he bought the spa pharmacy in Gries near Bozen, where he lived until his death.
Educated musically by his mother, who played and composed piano herself, he learned to play the violin, viola, cello and piano as well as timpani. In Bozen he worked as a violist in chamber music ensembles and composed numerous works, especially chamber music, choral works and songs. His work also includes symphonies, symphonic poems and other works for orchestra. His sister Camilla Lucerna (1868–1960) wrote the libretto for his opera Zlatorog . He did research in the field of folk music.
Few of his works are in print. The autographs are kept in the library of the Benedictine monastery Muri-Gries , Lucerna's memoirs in the Albertina in Vienna. A recording of his Concerto for Strings in B major is available on record.
