Anatol's Imermanis

Anatols Imermanis (born November 18, 1914 in Moscow , † November 13, 1998 in Riga ) was a Latvian writer and painter. His crime novels were u. a. translated into Russian and reached millions of copies. Imermanis also deserves attention as a science fiction writer ( Mortona piramīda , 1971).

Imermanis was born into a family of Latvian German-speaking Jews in Moscow, where she had been evacuated because of the First World War . After the end of the war, the family returned to the now independent Republic of Latvia and settled in Liepāja . Imermanis later studied English in Riga . First publication of poems in 1933; In 1934 he was arrested because of his membership in a communist underground movement and to three years in prison convicted.

During the Second World War Imermanis worked for various front newspapers of the Red Army . After the war he continued his literary activities as a poet, translator and novelist and achieved great popularity. His oeuvre very vividly traces the path from convinced communist to radical individualist and nonconformist. In the early 1970s Imermanis turned to painting; some of his volumes of poetry contain reproductions of his paintings.

Anatols Imermanis not only translated his own novels into Russian, but also Russian and German poets into Latvian, and others. a. Aleksandr Blok and Johannes R. Becher .
