Anca Pop (born October 22, 1984 in Moldova Nouă ; † December 17, 2018 in Svinița ) was a Romanian - Canadian singer.

Life

At the age of three, Anca's parents fled to Serbia with her . There, like her parents, she received the Serbian passport. Just seven months later, her family immigrated to Ontario ( Canada off). By emigrating, Anca also obtained Canadian citizenship. From the age of seven she received lessons in singing and the mandolin . After moving back to Romania with her family , Anca later decided to move back to Canada.

Through a demo recording in 2004, she was signed to 604 Records by Jonathan Simkin . Her breakthrough came through Goran Bregović with the songs Champagne for Gypsies (2008) and Jealous Monster (2012). Anca Pop released her video Free Love on April 28, 2015 (single) with the record company Roton . At the time, she also came out as bisexual . Almost three months later, on July 22, 2015, Playboy published an issue with her on the cover, which was stylistically related to her video. As of 2016, videos like Ring Around and Loco Poco have been shot in countries like China / Macau and Japan. Through these productions she lived in Thailand, among others. She became much better known in 2017 with her song Ederlezi , which became a summer hit in the Balkans.

On December 17, 2018, Anca died on the way to her family when she crashed into the Danube with her car .
