The Andermatt-Sedrun Sports AG (ASA), a subsidiary of Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, operates the ski areas Gemsstock, Nätschen-Gütsch-Schneehüenerstock and Sedrun-Oberalp under the name SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. With 120 kilometers of slopes, this is the largest ski area in Central Switzerland.

location

The ski area is located between the cantons of Uri and Graubünden . The height is between 1,444 m above sea level. M. ( Andermatt ) and 2,961 m above sea level. M. ( Gemsstock ).

Infrastructure

Most of the lifts are new and were implemented between 2014 and 2018. The targeted, cross-cantonal overall structure, a comprehensive structure plan procedure with coupled zoning plan revision and agreements in principle in the environmental area have created the basis for the approval by the Federal Office of Transport . In the process, previously untouched terrain chambers were developed. The Federal Office of Transport used a two-stage approval process for the first time and thus created the security for implementing the overall concept.

Approval process

In July 2014, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) applied for Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG (ASS) to approve phase 1 for the implementation of the ski area connection and modernization. The more than 1,000 requirements and measures then had to be incorporated into the project and implementation planning. The Andermatt-Sedrun ski area connection project comprised the construction of a total of 14 transport systems, including 10 systems in the first stage (4 new buildings, 5 replacement systems and 1 conversion) and 4 systems in the second phase (3 new lifts and 1 replacement system). In addition, snow-making systems, slopes and restaurants were built.

financing

The implementation of the modernization and new construction of the systems costs over CHF 130 million, of which 82 million were self-financed, 5 million and 3 million respectively were contributed by the cantons of Uri and Graubünden (à fond perdu) and CHF 40 million as low-interest, Federal NRP repayable loan borrowed.

"Dynamic Pricing"

In 2017, Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG was the first winter destination in Switzerland to introduce so-called dynamic pricing . In cooperation with Ticketcorner , tickets can be bought online at an early bird discount. The prices depend on the weather, season, weekday and date of purchase.

"POW - Protect our Winters"

Since the 2018/19 winter season, the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun and “Protect Our Winters Switzerland” (POW) have been working exclusively together on projects in the areas of sustainability and climate protection. The agreed measures focus on the two key areas of mobility and gastronomy , such as no PET bottles in the restaurants and free water (with or without carbon dioxide) or car-free days. These measures were recognized by Cipra in 2019.
