Anders Åslund (born February 17, 1952 in Karlskoga ) is a Swedish economist .

Life

Anders Åslund received his PhD from Oxford University in 1982 . From 1989 to 1994 he was Professor of International Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics. He then moved to Washington, DC for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace . From 2006 to 2015, Åslund was a Senior Fellow at the private Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is a lecturer at Georgetown University .

Policy advice

As an expert on Eastern Europe, he advised the Yeltsin government. From 1994 he worked as an economic advisor for Leonid Kuchma , the newly elected president of the now independent Ukraine. From 1998 Åslund advised the Kyrgyz President Askar Akajew . He sits on the Advisory Board of the Center for Social and Economic Research (CASE) and is a Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Council .
