Andor Horváth

Andor Horváth , Germanized Andreas Horvath (born November 25, 1778 in Pázmánd , Fejér County , Hungary; † March 7, 1839 ibid) was a Hungarian epic poet .

Horváth studied Catholic theology in Raab , Komorn and Pressburg and entered the clergy in 1797.

In terms of language and form (hexameter), he is the creator of the classic Hungarian epic; his main works are: Zircz emlékezete ( memory of Zircz , historical poem, 1806) and the heroic poem Arpad in twelve songs (Pest 1831), for which he received the grand prize from the Hungarian Academy in 1832. From 1830 he was a member of the academy. Horváth died on March 7, 1839 as a pastor in Pázmánd.
