André Bush

André Bush (born June 3, 1969 in Sacramento , † August 9, 2014 in Fresno ) was an American jazz guitarist and music teacher who was active on the west coast of the USA.

Life

Bush attended the Roosevelt School of the Arts in Fresno and was mainly active as a studio musician; his collaboration with singer Nnenna Freelon on her album Blueprint of a Lady earned him a 2005 Grammy nomination . Scott Yanow included it in his book The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide . In 1996 his debut album Darwin's Waiting Room was released , followed by Invisible City (1998, with Paul Hanson, Michael Zilber, Dave Liebman ). In 2005 he presented the album Start from Silence , on which Bruce Williamson, Peter Barshay, Alan Hall and Art Lande participated. In the field of jazz, he was involved in five recording sessions between 1996 and 2007, most recently with two albums by singer Alexa Weber Morales.

Bush taught music theory , music history, and improvisation at the Berkeley Jazz School and The Voice Shop in Fresno, where he lives. He wrote the textbook Modern Jazz Guitar Styles (Mel Bay Publications, 2005).
