André Cluysenaar
André Cluysenaar (full name: André Edmond Alfred Cluysenaar ; born May 31, 1872 in Saint-Gilles / Sint-Gillis , † April 7, 1939 in Uccle ) was a Belgian painter .
Live and act
Descending from the Dutch-Belgian line of the Klausener family of architects, who were originally from Austria and later based in Burtscheid , André Cluysenaar is the son of Alfred Cluysenaar and grandson of Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar and the father of the sculptor John Cluysenaar . In 1915 he separated from his wife Alice Gordon, a Scottish relative of Lord Byron . From 1914 to 1918 he lived in exile in London .
style
Initially attached to his father's style, his historical works were carried out in a romantic way. At times he worked as a sculptor , but switched to portrait painting . The royal family in Belgium and London as well as the respective upper class were his clients. Furthermore, the work of his father and his teacher François Joseph Navez, but also Alfred Stevens served as models. His late work is characterized by a lighter form of representation. The incarnation of these portraits is excellent. The representations convey a lively personality against an impressionistic background, which in the following portraits also merges into the incarnate. D. Derrey-Capon described his portraits as psychologically sensitive. Lively sketchy landscapes, nudes, still lifes and intimate scenes are among his subjects.

Individual evidence
- ↑ Male portrait
- ↑ Askart ascribes this picture to his father Jean-André Alfred Cluysenaar, whose first name is Alfred-Jean-André. This is stylistically (Alfred Cluysenaar's style was academic and formal) and, according to the dating of 1926 (24 years after Alfred Cluysenaar's death), impossible. His son John worked as a sculptor in 1926. askart ; sa Pensive on arcadja arcadja
