André Green (psychoanalyst)

André Green (born March 12, 1927 in Cairo , † January 22, 2012 in Paris ) was a French psychoanalyst .

Life

André Green studied medicine (specializing in psychiatry ) at the Paris Medical Faculty and has worked at various hospitals. After training as a psychoanalyst, he became a member of the Paris Psychoanalytic Society in 1965 and was its chairman from 1986 to 1989. From 1975 to 1977 he was vice chairman of the International Psychoanalytic Association and 1979/80 professor at University College London .

André Green is the author of numerous essays and books on the theory and practice of psychoanalysis as well as psychoanalytic cultural and literary criticism , some of which have also been published in German translation.
