André Juergens

André Jürgens (born July 3, 1977 ) is a German basketball official and referee.

Life

Jürgens came to basketball in 1992 through a school working group, in 1994 he was one of the founding members of the EBC Rostock . He was involved in the club, which was founded by members of the HSG Uni Rostock and Fiko Rostock clubs, as a player, coach, referee, hall spokesman and official. In the meantime he played for a year at PSV Rostock. After graduating from school, Jürgens began studying sports and demography before completing an apprenticeship as a sports and fitness specialist. Together with Christian Stecher, Jürgens ran the advertising agency "aktiv sportmanagement UG" as managing director from July 2014, and at the beginning of 2016 Stecher left the company as managing director. The cooperation between the EBC Rostock and the agency also ended in spring 2016.

Until June 2015, Jürgens was chairman of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Basketball Association . As a referee, Juergens headed games in the 2nd basketball league and took over the post of referee waiting for the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Basketball Association.

As a trainer, he looked after the women at PSV Rostock before they switched to the EBC, where they continued to be coached by Jürgens and, under his leadership, rose to the 2nd Bundesliga as runner-up in the 1st regional league in 2007. After this success he resigned, from February 2008 to 2010 Jürgens coached the EBC men's team. As early as 2008, he was the overall sporting director of the EBC Rostock. In 2013 he assumed the office of chairman of the association. In 2015, he set the goal of reaching the basketball league by 2020 with the men's team, whose name was changed from EBC to Rostock Seawolves in 2012 . Under Jürgens' leadership, the EBC Rostock developed into one of the largest basketball clubs within the German Basketball Federation in terms of participant cards : at the end of 2017, the EBC was ranked fifth nationwide. During Jürgens' tenure as club chairman in 2018, the men's team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA , and under his leadership the promotion of grassroots and competitive sports in the EBC youth sector was significantly expanded, including through the "Basketball Makes School" project, a primary school league and Rostock teams in the youth performance classes JBBL and NBBL . In his office as the club's chairman, but also as the sporting director and person in charge of the elementary school league, and as a youth and adult trainer, Jürgens played a leading role in the upswing in Rostock basketball.
