André Paulvé

André Paulvé (born October 30, 1898 in Seignelay , † July 8, 1982 in Paris ) was a French film producer .

Life

Paulvé worked as a businessman at a young age and was employed by a bank, among other things. In 1937 he turned to the film business and founded his own distribution company with the Discina. Another foundation followed in 1939, the production company Spéva. During the German occupation from 1940 to 1944, Paulvé produced an abundance of films, some of which were artistically high-quality and mostly dark in their mood, including " The Night with the Devil ", " Weather Light " and " The Eternal Bann ". When Marcel Carné's masterpiece Children of Paradise Paulvé helped finance. In just ten years, Paulvé produced the productions of some of the most respected directors in his country, including Robert Siodmak , Marcel L'Herbier , Jean Grémillon , René Clément , Jean Delannoy , Yves Allégret , Jacques Tati and Christian-Jaque .

Paulvé started his oeuvre after the end of the war with Jean Cocteau's legendary fable Once Upon a Time , which was euphorically received by critics . After a series of purely commercial productions, there was renewed cooperation with Cocteau in 1949. The result was the critically acclaimed film artwork Orpheus . Paulvé's last significant work was the gold helmet by Jacques Becker, produced in 1951 by the Spéva in collaboration with the brothers Raymond and André Hakim . In 1954 Paulvé withdrew from active film production.
