The Andrée Island is an island off the Danco Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in Recess Cove , a side bay of Charlotte Bay .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped the island based on aerial photographs taken by the British Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. made between 1956 and 1957. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the Swedish polar explorer Salomon August Andrée (1857-1897), who perished while trying to reach the geographic North Pole by balloon .
