The Charlotte Bay ( French Baie Charlotte ) is a bay on the Danco coast of the Antarctic Graham Land . It extends over a length of about 19 km in a north-south orientation between the Reclus Peninsula and Cape Murray .
It was discovered during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . It is named after a financier of the French hydrographer Georges Lecointe (1869–1929), a participant in the expedition. According to another representation, “Charlotte” is Lecointe's sister.
