Andrónico Luksic Craig (born April 16, 1954 in Antofagasta , Chile ) is a Chilean businessman. He is the CEO of Quiñenco , a holding company of the Luksic Group, one of the largest corporations in Chile. He and his family have one of the greatest fortunes in the world.

He is also the founder of the two non-profit organizations Fundación Educacional Oportunidad (education of children in Chile) and Fundación Amparo y Justicia (legal aid for victims of sexual violence).

Private life

Andrónico Luksic Craig is the eldest son of Andrónico Luksic Abaroa and brother of Guillermo Luksic Craig, both of whom arose from her father's first marriage to Ena Craig. She died when Andrónico was four years old. His father then married Iris Fontbona, with whom he had three other children: Maria Paola, Maria Gabriela and Jean-Paul.

In 1960 Andrónico and his family moved to Santiago , where they lived in a house called “Alcántar”. At the age of 16 Luksic left Chile for the USA , where he attended Dublin High School and Babson College. He ended his time at Babson College early to return to South America and work in his family's Ford dealerships.

After the 1973 coup , Andrónico moved from Chile to Argentina and married Patricia Lederer, with whom he has five children: Andrónico, Davor, Dax, Maximiliano and Fernanda.

Luksic is an avid mountaineer and reached the summit of Mount Everest in May 2004 . In December 2005 he completed the ascent of the Seven Summits .

Working life

Andrónico Luksic Craig began his career with the Luksic Group in 1973 as the responsible manager for Argentina and expanded the group's activities in the automotive and beverage sector. At first he worked in his family's Ford dealerships, initially as a salesman. Thereupon he was promoted to managing director and later took over the management of the entire Ford business of his family. In 1978 Andrónico Luksic Craig was appointed to Quiñenco's Board of Directors.

In 1982 Luksic returned to Santiago to manage his family's property in a small local bank. This entry into the financial sector was the first step in his career as a banker and investor.

After the death of his father, Andrónico Luksic Abaroa, the founder of the Luksic Group, in 2005, Andrónico Luksic Craig was transferred to the management of the Luksic Group's banking and financial operations. With his brothers Guillermo and Jean-Paul, who were responsible for the development of the production facilities and the mining business of the Luksic Group, Luksic took on the task of expanding his family's business in the financial sector over the course of the following two decades . He pursued a strategy of acquisitions and mergers that resulted in the creation of Chile's largest banks.

After the death of his brother Guillermo in 2013, Andrónico Luksic Craig became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Quiñenco SA Holding. His goal was to turn the company into a global corporation through long-term strategic investments.

In addition to his role as Chairman of the Quiñenco Board of Directors, Andrónico Luksic Craig is now also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Compania Cervecerias Unidas SA (CCU) and its subsidiaries CCU Chile, CCU Argentina and ECUSA. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Compania Sud Americana de Vapores SA (CSAV) and Banco de Chile and is a board member of Madeco SA (new name: Invexans) and Sociedad de Fomento Fabril (SOFOFA).

Luksic is a member of the international advisory board of the listed company Barrick Gold and a member of the advisory board of the Panama Canal Authority. He is also a member of the Chairman's International Council of the Council of the Americas, the Chilean Pacific Foundation and the Latin American Council of Nature Conservancy.

Luksic is a member of the Advisory Board of Harvard University and the Latin American Advisory Board of Harvard Business School. He is also on the advisory boards of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, Fudan University School of Management, Blavatnik School of Government (University of Oxford), and the Latin American Executive Committee of the MIT Sloan School of Management on.

honors and awards

In 2007 Luksic was appointed reserve officer in the Chilean army. In 2010 he was re-elected as one of three representatives on the Business Advisory Council (ABAC) of the Asia Pacific Economic Forum (APEC). In 2011, he was appointed Vice President of the Shanghai City Council's International Economic Council.
