Andrea Hartwig

Andrea Hartwig (born June 2, 1958 in Langenhagen ) is a German chemist and toxicologist . Since 2007 she has been the chairwoman of the so-called MAK values ​​commission of the German Research Foundation (officially: Standing Senate Commission for the testing of harmful substances of the DFG ), which recommends toxicological limit values ​​for substances.

Life

Hartwig studied chemistry at the University of Bremen and did research there from 1984 to 1987 for her doctorate on the topic of mutagenicity and comutagenicity of nickel and chromium compounds. During this time she completed a three-month research stay at the Institute of Environmental Medicine in New York State (USA). From 1988 to 1998 she was first a research assistant and then a research assistant at the University of Bremen. In 1996 she completed her habilitation in biochemistry.

From 1998 to 2004 she was C3 professor for food chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe , in 2004 she was appointed to a C4 professorship for food chemistry at the TU Berlin. Her main areas of work are the influence of essential trace elements on genetic stability, investigations into oxidative stress and the toxicology of food.

Since 2007 Andrea Hartwig has been a member of the Scientific Committee for Occupational Exposure Limits (SCOEL), which recommends EU occupational exposure limits . She is also a member of the Committee for Hazardous Substances , which derives legally binding occupational exposure limits for Germany according to TRGS 900.

Since September 2010 she has been a professor at the Institute for Applied Biosciences at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .
