Andrea Kühn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrea Kühn (born December 17, 1970 in Budapest ) is a German neurologist and neuroscientist in the field of movement disorders and neuromodulation at the Berlin Charité .

Life

Andrea Kühn studied human medicine from 1990 to 1998 (from 1993 with support from the German National Academic Foundation ) at the Charité , Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Nancy I in France. In 1998 she did her doctorate at the Charité Berlin. med. with the work Magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex of humans: topography and current direction dependence of corticospinal and callosal mediated stimulus effects, in 2000 she received her license to practice medicine . From 2002 to 2007 she worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Peter Brown at the Institute of Neurology, Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience and Movement Disorders at University College London . In 2006 she acquired the field title (specialist) for neurology. In 2007 she became head of the clinical work group movement disorders and deputy head of the special outpatient department for movement disorders at the Charité and in the same year junior professor for neurological movement disorders at the Clinic for Neurology at the Charité. She has been a senior physician at the Department of Neurology since 2010, and in the same year she became head of a clinical research group of the German Research Foundation . In 2012 Kühn became a full professor at the Clinic for Neurology at the Charité.

Kühn received a W3 professorship at the Charité in 2016 and took over the management of the newly established section for neuromodulation and movement disorders at the Department of Neurology on Campus Mitte. In 2020 she became the spokesperson for the Transregio Collaborative Research Center 295 Retune in cooperation with the University Hospital Würzburg , the University Hospital Düsseldorf , the University of Rostock and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Kühn's focus lies both clinically and scientifically on the treatment of movement disorders with the method of deep brain stimulation .

Act

Kühn's working group focuses on the characterization of physiomarkers in local field potentials in patients with movement disorders such as idiopathic Parkinson's syndrome . The cornerstone of the research is pathologically increased synchronization in the beta frequency range of the basal ganglia- cortex loop. This physiomarker correlates with the severity of bradykinetic and rigid symptoms of Parkinson's disease and is now established. Andrea Kühn's work in collaboration with Peter Brown is considered pioneering in this regard. Building on this, the working group deals with the development of so-called closed-loop systems in the field of deep brain stimulation. Multimodal modern methods are used here, for example the invasive derivation of subcortical and cortical ( electrocorticography ) field potentials. In addition, Kühn's group is methodically concerned with electroencephalography , functional magnetic resonance tomography , diffusion-weighted fiber tractography and structural magnetic resonance tomography .
