Andrea Locatelli , also Lucatelli, (* 19th December 1695 in Rome ; † 19th February 1741 ) was an Italian landscape painter of the Baroque .

Life

Locatelli was the son of the painter Giovanni Francesco Locatelli (1660–1741). He studied with Monsù Alto (a painter of coastal landscapes), after his death with Bernardino Fergioni (1674 - around 1738) and Biagio Puccini . In the latter, he mainly studied painting the human body. His landscapes with mythological and ancient motifs are reminiscent of Claude Lorrain , but also of Jan Frans van Bloemen (Orrizonte) and Salvator Rosa . In 1715 he was involved in the painting of the Palazzo Ruspoli in Rome (with maritime scenes, where he only painted the figures and was already highly paid) and for Victor-Amadeus II of Savoy he painted two pictures for his castle in Rivoli in 1723-1725 Turin (on behalf of Filippo Juvara ). In 1735 he painted two sopra portals for King Philip V (Spain) in La Granja (also mediated by Juvara) and in 1738 pictures for two doors in the Palazzo Corsini. One of his frescoes is also preserved in Villa Falconieri .

He influenced the marine painter Claude-Joseph Vernet .
