Andrea Suppa

Andrea Suppa (* 1628 in Messina ; † 1671 ibid) was an Italian painter and architect of the Baroque period in Sicily .

Life

In Messina he was first the student of Bartolomeo Tricomi and then the Flemish painter Abraham Casembroot (* in Bruges 1594; † 1658 in Messina). His classmates at Casembroot were Filippo Giannetto and Domenico Guargena . Suppa painted his frescoes and panel paintings mostly on behalf of the church in Messina and the surrounding area. His pupil in Messina was Antonio Bova (1628–1771).

Many of his works were destroyed by the severe earthquake of 1908 .

He also designed the Santuario di Montevergine in Messina, which was realized in 1654.
