Andreas Bauer (missionary)
Andreas Bauer (born November 26, 1866 in Gebweiler / Alsace ; † July 9, 1900 in Taeyun-fu / Empire of China ) was a Catholic monk , missionary and martyr .
Life
The Franciscan lay brother Bauer evangelized mainly in the north of Shanxi / China, but also in other areas of China and Russia . On July 9, 1900, the Boxer Rebellion broke out in which he was murdered along with other Christians in Taeyun-fu prison.
On November 24, 1946, Andreas Bauer and the other missionaries were beatified. Pope John Paul II canonized him on October 1, 2000 . His feast days are June 19th and July 9th.
