Andreas Dederich

Andreas Dederich (born January 30, 1804 in Bonn , † May 1, 1886 in Emmerich ) was a German high school teacher, historian and honorary citizen of the city of Emmerich am Rhein.

Life

Andreas Dederich studied in Bonn and passed his state examination in ancient languages ​​there in 1827. He taught history and geography at the Emmericher Gymnasium. Initially employed at the secondary school in Linz from 1831 , he came to the Emmerich grammar school, which had reopened as a state educational institution three years earlier, in autumn 1835. In Emmerich Dederich initially worked as a regular teacher, then from 1843 as a senior teacher. In 1864 he received the title of professor. He performed as a solo singer at social events. Thanks to his suggestion, the Emmericher Choral Society was founded in 1846, the tradition of which is continued by the current male choir.

In the fall of 1877 Dederich stopped teaching at the grammar school, but stayed in the town of Emmerich. He died on May 1, 1886 at the age of 82. His tomb is located in today's Gisbert-Lensing-Park .

Publications

Dederich published on historical and local history topics. His annals of the city of Emmerich remain of great importance for the history of the city , a font that comprises 630 printed pages and in which the texts of a large number of well-preserved original documents on parchment are contained in the local city archive.

The holdings of the city's archives did not survive the Second World War, apart from a few remnants of a more recent date. That is why Dederich's book has become so valuable.

Honors

In 1882, at the 50th anniversary of the grammar school as a state institution, the mayor and city council granted him honorary citizenship. He was the bearer of the Red Eagle Order IV class.

Dederichstrasse in Emmerich was named after Andreas Dederich.
