Andreas Dietel (born October 20, 1959 in Langenbernsdorf , Karl-Marx-Stadt district ) is a German speed skater. He started for the German Democratic Republic in 1980 and 1984 at the Olympic Winter Games and during his active time competed for SC Dynamo Berlin .

Career

At the GDR championships in 1977 he won a medal for the first time and took third place in the big all-around competition. A year later he celebrated his GDR championship title and won the gold medal at the GDR championships in 1978 in a major all- around competition. After winning a silver medal at the GDR championships in 1979 , he celebrated the GDR championship title at the GDR championships in 1980 over the 1,000 meters and the 1,500 meters. At the GDR championships in 1983 he won the gold medal three times over the 500 meters and the 1,000 meters as well as in the major all-around competition. He won his last German championship title at the GDR championships in 1984 in the sprint all- around competition.

He was nominated for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid by the GDR's National Olympic Committee and competed four times. While he did not come in the top ten over the 500 meters and 10,000 meters, he finished seventh over the 1,000 meters and just missed a medal over 1,500 meters with fourth place. He started at the speed skating sprint world championship in 1981 and speed skating sprint world championship in 1983 and finished eighth in each case. He was nominated for the Winter Games in Sarajevo by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR and started over four routes. While he did not finish in the top fifteen over the 500 meters and the 10,000 meters, he finished seventh and sixth respectively over the 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters.
