GDR speed skating championships in 1979
The GDR championships in speed skating in 1979 took place on the individual routes and in the sprint all-around in the Karl-Marx-Städtische Eisstadion in Küchwald. In the major all-around competition, no champions were determined this year. Sylvia Albrecht with four titles and Andreas Ehrig with three titles were the most successful athletes at the championships.
