Mario Oliveri (born January 22, 1944 in Campo Ligure , Province of Genoa , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Albenga-Imperia .

Life

Mario Oliveri was ordained a priest on June 29, 1968 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Albenga-Imperia on October 6, 1990. The Archbishop of Genoa , Giovanni Cardinal Canestri , gave him episcopal ordination on November 4th of the same year; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Luigi Poggi , Apostolic Nuncio in Italy, and Giuseppe Dell'Omo , Bishop Emeritus of Acqui . As a motto he chose Fides et pax .

Oliveri was accused of vigorously defending a priest convicted of sexually abusing an altar boy and sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison.

With Guglielmo Borghetti he was appointed a coadjutor bishop on January 10, 2015 . When Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on September 1, 2016, he succeeded him as Bishop of Albenga-Imperia.
