Andreas Embirikos ( Greek Ανδρέας Εμπειρίκος ; born September 2, 1901 in Brăila , Kingdom of Romania ; † August 3, 1975 in Athens , Greece ) was a Greek psychoanalyst and poet of surrealism .

Life

Embirikos comes from a well-known Greek shipowner family of the 19th and 20th centuries, who had their headquarters on the Aegean island of Syros . The surname of some of the members of the family is / was spelled Embiricos.

Act

Embirikos is considered to be one of the most important Greek poets of the 20th century, the main exponent of modernism and the reform of modern Greek poetry (see: Generation of the 1930s ), and a courageous thought leader. He was also one of the pioneers in psychoanalysis in Greece.
