Andreas Grisch

Andreas Grisch (born January 5, 1879 in Surlej near Silvaplana ( Switzerland ); † February 6, 1952 in Küsnacht ) was a Swiss agricultural scientist .

Live and act

Andreas Grisch studied agriculture at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich and received his doctorate there in 1907 with the dissertation "Contributions to the knowledge of the plant-geographical conditions of the Bergüner sticks " . Since 1902 he worked as an employee at the Zurich semen control station . From 1920 to 1944 he headed the semen control department of the semen testing and research institute in Zurich - Oerlikon . Between the two world wars he played a key role in building up the seed industry in Switzerland. His work "Determining the Origin of Clover and Grass Seeds" , published in 1944, was considered a standard work in the field of seed testing for decades.

Grisch also made special contributions in the field of forage production . He summarized his observations and the results of his experiments on natural forage production in the publication “The main plants and plant stocks of natural meadows and pastures” (1931). In addition, Grisch was the author or co-author of practice-oriented textbooks for agricultural teaching.
