Andreas Guder

Andreas Guder (born August 12, 1966 in Munich ) is a German sinologist .

Life

He studied German as a Foreign Language (MA), Sinology, German Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the University of Beijing . After receiving his doctorate in Munich in 1998 in Sinology on the didactics of characters, he worked for four years as a DAAD lecturer for German as a foreign language at the Technical University of Beijing . In 2003 he was appointed junior professor for Chinese language and translation at Faculty 6 at the University of Mainz in Germersheim. From 2006 to 2016, Andreas Guder was head of the Chinese language department at the Free University of Berlin . From 2016 to 2019 he was professor for Chinese didactics in Göttingen, responsible for teacher training in the school subject Chinese. He was also the German director of the Academic Confucius Institute there . Since 2019 he has been teaching as professor for didactics of Chinese as well as the language and literature of China at the Free University of Berlin. The professorship is funded directly by Hanban for the first five years , which has sparked controversy.

In addition to individual translation work, his main research interests are the linguistics of modern Chinese, translation studies and specialist didactics of Chinese as a foreign language.

In his dissertation “Sinographemdidaktik” he dealt with the problem of conveying characters in Chinese lessons and later mainly worked on issues relating to the teaching of the Chinese language as a “distant” foreign language in contrast to European “affine” foreign languages. Since 2004, Andreas Guder has been the elected chairman of the Chinese Association, the nationwide association of all teachers of Chinese at schools and universities with over 500 members, as well as the editor of "CHUN - Chinese Lessons", the only specialist journal on Chinese as a foreign language in Europe. Under his leadership, the Chinese Association produced several orientation papers on the problems of Chinese teaching, including a critical opinion on the official state Chinese examination HSK. In 2010 he was one of the initiators of the EU-funded project “European Benchmarks for the Chinese Language”, which has developed descriptors for Chinese language skills for European learners in a clear differentiation from the VR Chinese curricular requirements for Chinese lessons.
