Andreas Gut (born March 1, 1961 in Spaichingen ) is a German prehistorian , medieval archaeologist and museum director.

Andreas Gut was particularly interested in Roman research early on and took part in excavations as a schoolboy. From October 1982 to December 1990 he studied Prehistory , Prehistory and Ethnology at the Universities of Tübingen and Lisbon . Between 1983 and 1990 he worked alongside his studies on the Trojaprojekt at the University of Tübingen under Manfred Korfmann . In Tübingen he completed his studies with a master’s degree and wrote his master’s thesis on the subject of The Slate Idols of Portugal based on the estate of Vera Leisner . Between November 1991 and August 1992 he worked at the Landesmuseum Württemberg in Stuttgart , then until April 1999 at the Braith-Mali-Museum in Biberach , where, in addition to setting up the archaeological collection with a focus on the pile dwellings, he was also responsible for processing Roman finds . For example, he put together 3800 wall painting fragments from the Roman estate Biberach-Burrenwald . In 1997 this exhibition, which he had put together, was opened. Gut then became the founding director of the Alemanni Museum in Ellwangen , which under his leadership developed into one of the most important institutions of its kind. In 2006 he became the Limes Commissioner for the city of Ellwangen.

Before he started working as a museum, Gut mainly dealt with the Neolithic and the Copper Age on the Iberian Peninsula and in other regions of the Mediterranean . Later, for professional reasons, the history and archeology of the Middle Ages , especially the Alemanni , became the focus of interest. He also deals with the pile dwellings, such as the history of the Forschner Collection .
