Andreas Hoff

Andreas Hoff is a German sociologist and gerontologist .

Academic life

After studying sociology and economics at the University of Leipzig and sociology and social policy at the Manchester Metropolitan University (1989–1996: Dipl.-Sociologist), he received his doctorate from the London School of Economics & Political Sciences (Ph.D. 2001).

In 2011, Hoff was appointed Professor of Social Gerontology at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences , where he heads the part-time Master's degree in Social Gerontology and conducts research on gerontological issues.

Hoff has headed the Faculty of Social Sciences as dean since 2015 and is the founder (2016) and director of the Research Institute for Health, Aging and Technology (GAT).

He is deputy chairman of the independent advisory board on the compatibility of care and work (according to § 14 Federal Care Leave Act), which the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), the Federal Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG ) advises on the implementation of the Family Care Leave Act. He is the German representative and member of the Management Committee of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) research network INTERFASOL “Intergenerational Family Solidarity Across Europe”, which consists of 20 countries. He is also a member of the section board of Section III "Social and behavioral gerontology" of the German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics (DGGG).

He worked in Great Britain (Manchester, London (LSE) and Oxford) for a total of 12 years. Since then, his special focus has been on international comparative and interdisciplinary research and research on the aging of the population in Eastern Europe.

His main research interests are: intergenerational relationships in family and society, family and home care, use of technical assistance systems in the living environment of older people, the compatibility of care and work, development of care structures in an aging society , aging and social inequality as well as social policy and aging .
