Andreas Kämmerling (born June 1, 1963 in Düsseldorf ) is a German motorcycle racing driver .

Life

Kämmerling attended the Humboldt Gymnasium in Düsseldorf and was in the same grade as Andreas Frege (Campino) and Michael Breitkopf (Breiti). Due to his passion for motorcycles , which was pronounced at an early age , his school performance was so poor that he had to repeat two grades and ultimately left high school after the tenth grade. He began training as a painter and varnisher , which he successfully completed in 1984.

He drove his first race in 1987 on a Suzuki GSX-R 750 at the Nürburgring . In 1989 and 1990 he drove with the material from Ralf Waldmann in the German championship up to 80  cm³ and up to 125 cm³. Due to the outdated and burnt-out material and without sponsors, Kämmerling was only able to achieve minor successes through courageous driving style. Nevertheless, he managed to rise to the national level in 1991 in the team "Motorrad-Krage-Racing" Krefeld . This season he drove a previous year's GSX-R-750. Due to many falls and the resulting fractures, he switched back to a Seel in the small 80s class within the season . In his last race he was able to secure his only pole position. Due to a flat tire on the newly fitted front tire, it fell out at the starting line. He ended his barely started professional career.

After attending evening grammar school, Kämmerling studied medicine in Düsseldorf from 1995 to 2001, completed his doctorate in 2002 at the Institute for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and then completed specialist training, initially as an internist and later as a cardiologist.

After graduating, he began his return to motorcycle racing. In the German Series Sport Cup , he secured seventh place in his first race after eleven years. Kämmerling has been driving a specially prepared Aprilia RS 250 from FRP Fiedler from Welschenbach since 2003 . Equipped with top quality material, he was runner-up in 2005, half a point behind, and in 2006 he won the cup with ease. Kämmerling was considered an expert in wet conditions. In 2007 he ended his career.

Kämmerling is married for the second time. His eldest son Daniel Kämmerling also won the Cup in 2009, at the age of seventeen, as the youngest overall winner in the history of the competition. Daniel Kämmerling started from 2010 to 2012 under the supervision of his father in the 125cc class of the International German Championship (IDM) on a Seel-Honda.
