Andreas Martin (wood carver)

Andreas Martin (* 1956 in Olbernhau ) is a German chainsaw carver, he won the European title in 2007.

Life

Martin started carving in fourth grade . After finishing school he began training as a forestry worker and after completing his military service he studied forestry. He had been working as a district forester since 1981 and was in charge of the Mulda forest district until 2010. At the beginning of 2011 he left the state forest service.

In 1998, Martin, who had been doing the traditional carving in his free time, started carving with a chainsaw . In 2003 he took part in national chainsaw carving competitions for the first time and in the following years took part in international events in Japan, Australia, Brazil, England, Austria and the USA.

He appeared in Stefan Raab's TV show TV total , saw a Holzmichl for De Randfichten and the men's model Wilhelm II for Bruno Banani .

From a log cabin built in 1996 and moved three years later in the forest near Dorfchemnitz , the concept of the Blockhausen forest adventure hut emerged in 2001 after the MDR broadcast “Unterwegs in Sachsen”, which presented the sow sawmill .

In 2007 Martin won first place at the English Open in Manchester with a pack of 20 sows carved out of a tree trunk and was thus also the winner of the European Open for chainsaw carvers after he had previously won the German Open in Bispingen with his work of art "Hermann Löns" third place.
