history

Freiberg Hut

The first hut, the Freiberger Hütte , was built in 1996 on the property of Andreas Martin in Mulda. A year later this was implemented in the forest. This is how the development of Blockhausen began. The Canadian-style cabin has an octagonal floor plan and is approximately 68 square meters. The roof construction is supported in the middle by a mighty central column and can accommodate up to 50 people. In the hut there is a kitchen that was built by master joiner Günter Janzen from Cämmerswalde based on plans by wood designer Jahn Haufe from Mulda. The hut also has a hot tub , a place for a campfire and a herb garden.

Great hut

Construction of the large hut began on April 9, 2009. First the floor slab was made with 31 m³ of concrete. The actual construction began on April 20, 2009 under the direction of Wolfgang Buheitel from Rehau in the Upper Franconian district of Hof in Bavaria . Just two days later, the 560 m² roof with roof boarding and shingles was ready. A total of approx. 381 m³ of wood was used. A modern kitchen and sanitary facilities were also built here. The large room offers space for 70 people. There are overnight accommodations for 23 people under the roof.

Snack bar and hay hotel

The third hut is currently a snack bar with a hay hotel above it, which can accommodate 25 people. Next to the hut is a huge wooden puppet ( Ent from Lord of the Rings ), made in 2008.

Beehives

Are located on the way to Blockhaus booties the scene of beekeeping, created in 2011 by the Huskycup chainsaw artists and a beekeeper are managed. The life of the bees and the work of the beekeeper are explained and presented in several showcases .

Longest table in the world

Longest table
Dragon figure

The longest table in the world is in Blockhausen. On May 13, 2010 it was included in the Guinness Book and certified. This table with a total length of 39.80 m and a weight of 2 t was created from a 41 m long spruce trunk. The remaining tree stump had a diameter of 1.20 m. An approximately 120-year-old spruce infested by the bark beetle in the Sayda district, Mulda district, was felled in June 2008 for this purpose. The infected tree had a mean diameter of 0.55 meters and a total length of 41 meters, which is 11.11 solid meters . In October 2008, the current 5 × 50 meter square was created and covered with gneiss slabs. The branch furniture maker Heiko Morgenstern made the necessary struts and table legs from the severed branches. On October 19, 2008, on the Day of Traditional Crafts , 170 people were able to sit at the longest table in the world. At the Huskycup at Whitsun 2010, the 24 pillars for the roof were created. In addition, 24 miners from the surrounding regions came in their miner's uniforms and were carved by the husky cup participants. In the meantime, individual events from the surrounding places have been engraved on the tabletop.

International Huskycup (Husqvarna Chainsaw Cup)

Notice of the next major event in 2020

The Huskycup has been held every year at Whitsun since 2004. The world's best chainsaw carvers meet and carve unique works of art according to the topic. The participants, the champions of the chainsaw carvers, come from the USA , Canada , Austria , Germany , Australia , Norway , Sweden , Russia , Switzerland , Finland , Japan , England , Denmark , France , Ecuador , the Netherlands and others. The sculptures are up to 3 m high and are made of oak. All carved figures of the competitions are set up in and around Blockhausen. For the audience there is also a daily speed carving followed by an auction. Annual chainsaw carving courses with various topics and the chainsaw carving symposium take place on various dates. As with fast carving in the Husky Cup, the audience can then bid for the figures. At the 2016 symposium, for example, Chancellor Angela Merkel was immortalized with a chainsaw in Blockhausen. Biotope

The spruce monoculture with coniferous soil without vegetation and the intensively used grassland with a piped stream are the basis for a diverse biotope. The native species include seven bat species, including the pipistrelle, as well as common toads, grass snakes, common frogs and newts. Lizards, like the now rare sand lizard, make use of the drywall and piles of wood. A meadow orchard with over 90 trees provides a habitat for insects. Over 80 bird species have been mapped in this multi-layered mixed forest and its meadow areas. Numerous tall tree stumps were left to give the great spotted woodpecker a habitat.
