Andreas Rickenbacher (born April 4, 1959 in Sissach , Canton of Basel-Landschaft) is a Swiss painter and graphic artist.

Andreas Rickenbacher was born on April 4, 1959 in Sissach, Canton Basel-Landschaft, where he grew up. First he learned the trade of a locksmith. His enthusiasm for painting began in 1985. At that time he was primarily interested in the surrealists Salvador Dalí and René Magritte . Their dreamlike and enigmatic motifs, combined with the precise type of implementation, inspired him and he began to attend courses at the Basel School of Design. With his teacher at the time, Peter Stettler, he learned how to closely observe the figure and how to translate it precisely into drawings. At Rickenbacher this initiated the change to realistic painting. The encounter with the Basel painter Jürg Kreienbühl was also of great influence in this sense . The spiritual kinship with him is most clearly evident in the ship pictures by Andreas Rickenbacher. Another central motif in Rickenbacher's painting are the mountains. On his hikes he sketches and watercolors the formations and mountain lakes or captures the scenes in photographs, in order to then transport them to the canvas in the studio. The third theme is the still life. Andreas Rickenbacher arranges these in his studio as detailed compositions of everyday objects, banal little things such as boxes, glasses, books and, again and again, animal skulls, consciously based on the vanitas symbolism of classic still life painting of the 17th - 19th centuries. Century. The theme of transience also appears in Rickenbacher's etchings, which in their structure and technique are reminiscent of still lifes and black and white photographs. Rickenbacher's works are represented in collections in Switzerland and abroad and are auctioned in Swiss auction houses (such as Sotheby's Zurich). Andreas Rickenbacher is a member of Visarte (professional association of visual artists in Switzerland).

Rickenbacher is married and lives in Binningen near Basel.
