Andreas Stech
Andreas Stech (* 1635 in Stolp in Pomerania ; † 1697 in Danzig ) was an important German painter in Danzig.
Life
The father was the painter Heinrich Stech from Lübeck , the mother Anna Krasen. In 1642 the family settled in Danzig.
From 1653, Andreas Stech probably learned from Adolf Boy , whose daughter he later married. In 1658 he submitted his apprenticeship to the painters' guild, in 1662 his masterpiece. In 1667 he received citizenship of the city of Danzig.
Andreas Stech had personal relationships with the sculptor Andreas Schlueter , whose child he was godfather in 1668, and with whom he worked in Pelplin, Oliva and Warsaw. Since 1673 he has held leading positions in the painters' guild, including three times that of senior man (chairman, 1675, 1680, 1696).
Create
Alongside Daniel Schultz, Andreas Stech is considered the most important painter of his time in Poland-Lithuania. He created large paintings in monastery churches in Danzig, Pelplin and Oliva. In the Artus Court he painted allegorical scenes. Stech depicted landscape motifs and still lifes in paintings, as well as numerous portraits of Gdańsk personalities.
His painting style is strongly influenced by Flemish and Dutch models, although no trip from him is known to date.
