Andreas Wree

Andreas Wree (born May 11, 1952 in Nordballig ) is a German anatomist .

Life

After graduating from the Goethe School in Flensburg , he began studying human medicine in 1971 at the University of Kiel . He was supported by the German National Academic Foundation through additional commitment . In 1976 he married and in 1977 he successfully completed his studies with the medical examination. He then did his military service as a medical officer in Kiel from 1977 to 1978 . 1978 doctorate he became Dr. med. at the University of Kiel in the Braak group. From 1978 to 1981 he worked as a research assistant at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Kiel in the Zilles group. He then moved to the University of Cologne in 1981 and continued the same work there until 1987. In 1986 he was appointed private lecturer and habilitated in anatomy at the University of Cologne. From 1987 to 1992 he researched and taught as professor of anatomy at the University of Würzburg . From October 1992 to September 2018, Wree was Head of the Anatomy Institute at the University of Rostock . During this time he was appointed a specialist in anatomy in 1998 by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Medical Association . 1996–2008 he was a member of the faculty council, 2000–2004 dean of studies and 2008–2014 he was also appointed president of the council of Rostock University. In 2006, 2007 and 2013 he was also awarded the title of Teacher of the Year by the University of Rostock. Since September 2018 he has continued his work at the same institute as a senior professor . Andreas Wree is the father of six adult children and the grandfather of nine grandchildren.

research

Andreas Wree dealt particularly intensively with stem cell research . This was achieved with the help of animal models of neurodegenerative diseases and research into messenger substances and neurotransmitters . He has specialized in this field of research since 1992 and is still researching this topic today.
