Andreea Bălan

Andreea Georgiana Bălan (born June 23, 1984 in Ploieşti ) is a Romanian pop and dance singer, songwriter, dancer and model. In Romania she was best known through the duo Andrè .

Bălan is to this day the only interpreter who published a music album in her home country as a child. Andreea Bălan was a member of the teen girl duo Andrè from 1998 to 2001 and during this time published six studio albums with her band colleague Andreea Antonescu. Bălan was the only one to receive the “FHM Special Award for Most Sexy Music Video”.

Childhood and first musical experiences

Bălan was born in 1984 as the only child of Valeria and Săndel Bălan in Ploieşti. There she attended elementary school from 1991 to 1995 and the Ion Luca Caragiale secondary school between 1995 and 2001.

She made her first musical experiences at the age of ten when her talent for singing was discovered. Bălan then performed at various local events, with the support of her father and the attention of Mihai Constantinescu . He invited Bălan to his talk shows and proposed to Andreea Bălan to found a band. However, this was not realized due to excessive disagreements.

In 1997, at the age of 13, she qualified for the Romanian preliminary round of the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest , but was disqualified due to age restrictions. The following year she recorded several songs with the help of her father and released them on her first album Amețiți de fum ("Sleepy from the smoke"). Bălan has since become the youngest person to release a song album in Romania.

Music duo Andrè

At the end of 1998 she founded a music duo with Andreea Antonescu under the name Andrè . After the founding, the first song Un univers mai liniştit ("A better world"), a debut single, which is included on the first album, was released. The first album La întâlnire (“The Meeting”) was also a great public success. In 1999 the song Liberă la mare ("Freedom of the Sea") was released. This was also performed at the Mamaia Festival by Andrè. The following song Șlagăre ("Schlager") landed at number one.

In 2001 Andrè was awarded the Bravo Otto by the Romanian edition of Bravo magazine . In addition, Bălan arranged that Alina Sorescu , also a friend of Bălan, should join Andrè. Antonescu did not agree with this, and so Bălan briefly founded an independent duo with Sorescu, which was dissolved again after six months. The reason for this was the great disagreement between the two singers.

After the death of Andreea Antonescu's father, the duo performed one last time in public. Then the sixth and final studio album O noapte și-o zi ("One night and one day") was released.

After three years of working together, Andreea Bălan and Andreea Antonescu Andrè dissolved.

Solo career

Andreea Bălan started a career as a solo artist after Andrè broke up in 2001. Andrea Antonescu did the same. On June 23, 2001, their first solo studio album Te joci cu mine ("You play with me") was released, which was produced and distributed under the music label Cat Music . This contains songs and compositions that were originally intended for the album O noapte și-o zi from the same year. After the success of the first album, Bălan started her first international tour of the United States in mid-December 2002 to January 2003 .

At the age of 19, after graduating from Ploieşti, she moved to Bucharest to study at Spiru Haret University. After studying at university, she recorded songs for her third studio album, Aşa sunt eu (“So am I”), which was released in 2004. The album has musical influences from pop, pop-rock and dance music.

In the spring of 2007, Bălan took part in the Romanian dance show Dansez pentru tine , where she and Dumitru Botiș took third place in the third season. In 2010 she released the single Trippin ' . Bălan sang the song at several events and concerts, including the Miss Romania election and the ninth presentation of the Romanian Music Awards .

On May 13, 2011, she published Like a bunny , initially on her YouTube account. After the release, there were problems with the youth protection agency, as Bălan and her dancers appear very scantily clad in the music video. The agency also stated that the video would be too reminiscent of Playmates than a normal music video. Bălan then apologized for this offense.

In 2012 the song Money love was released . In 2013 Bălan started her first national tour.

Music style and appearance

In the course of her musical career, Bălan has adopted several different musical styles and made some attempts to combine new trends with older musical elements. So contains z. B. her fifth studio album SuperWoman musical influences of samba , rock 'n' roll and pop .

Although her outfits and appearances are often rated as too “revealing” and “obscene” by critics, she receives positive reviews from younger fans, both in public, after concerts or events, and from journalists.

Personal

Bălan was in a relationship with Teo Pacurar from 2004 to 2006. In 2005, the couple publicly announced the engagement, but Bălan filed for divorce in 2006 due to personal difficulties.

She has been in a relationship with Romanian actor George Burcea since 2014. Both got engaged in 2016, after which Bălan gave birth to two daughters. In 2019, Bălan and Burcea married and had another daughter. In 2020, Bălan filed for divorce.
