Andrei Hvostov (born July 10, 1963 in Jõhvi ) is an Estonian essayist , writer and journalist .

life and work

Andrei Hvostov graduated from high school in Kohtla-Järve, northeast Estonia, in 1982 . He then did his military service in the Red Army until 1984 . From 1986 to 1988 he trained as a beekeeper in Olustvere .

From 1988 to 1995, Hvostov studied history at the University of Tartu . He has been working as a journalist and essayist since 1994. He worked for a long time for the largest Estonian weekly newspaper Eesti Ekspress . In 2000/2001 he completed further training in journalism at the Free University of Berlin .

In 2008, Hvostov received the renowned Friedebert Tuglas Prize for his novella Sinised mäed .

In addition to his journalistic and writing activities, Hvostov is also politically active. In 2013 he ran unsuccessfully for Tallinn City Council.
