Andrei Mercea (born March 16, 1925 in Arad , † January 24, 2002 ) is a former Romanian football player . The striker denied 230 games in the top division of the country, the Divizia A . With UTA Arad he won the Romanian championship in 1947, 1948, 1950 and 1954.

Career

Mercea came in 1946 to ITA Arad , which at the time in the first Romanian league, the Divizia A , played. With ITA he was able to win the Romanian championship in the seasons 1946/47 and 1947/48 , to which he was able to contribute a total of 16 hits. In 1948 he moved to CSCA Bucharest , but returned to Arad after just one year. In Arad he was part of the team in the following years and was able to win the championship again in the seasons 1950 and 1954 . Apart from the 1950 season, the striker rarely appeared as a top scorer. From 1956 his missions became less frequent. In the summer of 1958 he left the club for second division AMEF Arad . With AMEF he fought relegation for three years. In 1961 he joined the lower class Teba Arad, where he ended his career a short time later.

National team

Mercea played six games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut on June 6, 1948 in the second game of the 1948 Balkan Cup against Hungary . The game was lost with 0: 9. In the fourth tournament game on July 4, 1948, he belonged to the team that could beat Czechoslovakia 2-1. On October 10, 1948, he was used for the last time in the 0-0 win against Poland .

In May 1950 Mercea returned to the national team and scored his first goal in a 3-3 friendly game against Poland. In the 6-0 win over Albania on October 8, 1950, he scored his second goal. He was used for the last time in the 1-0 win against Poland on May 25, 1952.
