Andrei Nikolayevich Moskvin
Andrei Nikolajewitsch Moskwin ( Russian Андрей Николаевич Москвин ; born February 14, 1901 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire , † February 28, 1961 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet cameraman .
Life
Alongside Eduard Tisse and Anatoly Golovnya, Moskvin was considered the most important pictorial designer of early Soviet cinema. In 1921, Andrei Moskwin was one of the co-founders of FEKS, the “Factory of the Eccentric Actor”, an avant-garde artists' association that wanted to break new ground in the performing arts. He photographed experimental short films for FEKS, and from 1925 full-length feature films were added.
The directors Grigori Kosinzew and Leonid Trauberg especially valued the suggestive images of Moskwin. Andrei Moskwin achieved his most important achievement in terms of film history in the 1940s when, together with Tisse, he was responsible for the extensive photographic work on Sergei Eisenstein's monumental biography of the Tsar, Ivan the Terrible, Ivan the Terrible, Part 1 and Part 2 .
After the Second World War, Moskvin was only occasionally behind the camera. He mostly photographed pretentious film biographies. His last significant camerawork was the film adaptation of Iossif Cheific 's celebrated Chekhov film The Lady with the Dog . It was also Moskwin's last completed film. Andrei Moskvin died in 1961 when the filming of Konsinzew's adaptation of the Shakespearean drama Hamlet began . This work was continued by his colleague Jonas Grizjus.
